Fare Payment

SPARTA's farebox is designed for customer convenience and to validate the payment of a fare. Primarily, there are two ways in order for a passenger to pay his/her fare through the farebox:

  •  Payment with Cash
    1. Bills can be accepted into the slot on the right side of the farebox.
    2. Coins can be inserted into the coin trap in front of the cash slot.
    3. Exact change does not have be used as the farebox will produce change on a "change card" in which may used on future rides. The driver does not carry change.
  • Payment with a Pass
    1. The pass is inserted into the reader located to the left of the coin/cash receptacles. The pass should be inserted with the front of the pass facing the passenger and the top of the pass facing upward.
    2. Insert the pass. The farebox will read it to verify it is a valid pass and then return it back out for the customer to redeem.
    3. A variety of passes are available. See the pass section on the right of this page for more info.

Transfer Policy

The transfer policy has also changed with the implementation of new fares and passes. Transfers issued at the time the fare is paid will be valid for 90 minutes. Transfers for those passengers qualifying for the reduced fare program are free.

IDs with Discounted Fares

Customers should be prepared to present qualifying identification for purchase and/or use of any discounted passes. Operators may ask for IDs if they are not presented.
