SPARTA’s ADA Complementary Paratransit is performed by Spartanburg County
Transportation Service Bureau (TSB). To ride
the ADA Complementary Paratransit Service with the TSB you must have a
disability which makes you
unable
to use SPARTA fixed route bus service.
Unable
means that it is impossible or it causes severe
or continuing pain. Discomfort, occasional pain.
age, or distance to the nearest bus stop do not
by themselves constitute an eligible disability.
Who is
Spartanburg County Transportation Service
Bureau?
TSB is
door-to-door van transportation that helps meet
the needs of mobility impaired persons in
Spartanburg.

The
Paratransit vans
are designed in compliance with the requirements
of the Americans with Disabilities Act. They can
accommodate common wheelchairs up to 30" X 48"
measured at 2" above the ground and weighing no
more than 600 pounds when occupied. The driver will not
attempt to accommodate wheelchairs which do not
meet these dimensions. If your wheelchair
interferes with the proper and safe operation of
the lift, even though it is within these
dimensions, the driver will not attempt to load your
wheelchair on the van.
The vans are equipped with a
restraint system for securing wheelchairs.
However, some wheelchairs which meet the
standard measurements are difficult or
impossible to properly secure. While it is not
mandatory that you allow the driver to attempt
to secure your wheelchair, it is strongly
recommended.
How To
Qualify...
There is a
two part application process which you must
complete before you are allowed to use SPARTA’s
ADA Complementary Paratransit service. In the first
part, you give SPARTA permission to contact a
professional who is familiar with your
abilities. In the second part, this professional
answers questions about your ability to use
fixed route bus service. SPARTA uses this
information to determine if you are eligible to
use SPARTA’s Complementary Paratransit service
all of the time, some of the time, or not at
all. If you disagree with our decision, you may
appeal the decision.
Once you qualify for the service, you must get a
photo ID made at the SPARTA Passenger Center on
100 Liberty Street. Then you may call TSB at
(864) 560-4267 to make appointments.
Appeals & Complaints

which you may use to appeal a decision
concerning your eligibility to use the

for failure to cancel. Call 562-4BUS for a copy
of the SPARTA’s Appeals Process.
If you have complaints about
